GO-GO

LONG LIVE GO-GO

LONG LIVE DC

3:2

I think I was 19 or 20 when I learned that Go-Go wasn’t something every city had, and I was shocked. Growing up in the DMV, Go-Go was the soundtrack to every life stage I went through, and set my expectations for amazing experiences. Growing up, it was just something to play and dance to. Now Go-Go, one of the last cultural pillars of Chocolate City, has turned political.

DC Black culture is continual erased and displaced from DC and the DMV through rapid gentrification and predatory government policies targeting the working class and Black communities. In a space where our entire existence is constantly under threat of removal, Go-Go has become a resounding and stalwart fixture that says to transplants and natives alike:

We are still here. You can’t run from the crank.
